Today Was a Fairytale...

That morning I woke up with the biggest smile. I could still feel the way he pulled me into him the night before. I couldn’t stop thinking about his hands in my hair, on my hips, my thighs, my neck.
I had the day off and tried to do normal things but I couldn’t stop replaying it over and over anymore than I could stop smiling. So, I went for a drive. Somehow my car just went north, where Joe worked.
I shot him a text just saying hi and to see if he was thinking of me as much as I was him. He answered right away. He was custom spraying farm ground and he began a game.
“I’m on a road that has a lot of something we can’t live without but could kill you.” He riddled me.
He refused to tell me what it was or where he was.
“I’m bored, let’s make it a scavenger hunt and see of you can find me.”
“Water?” There was a creek nearby.
“Nope. You could live without it but it would suck a lot”
“Cows???” I prove to not be great at this game.
“No. No cows. It wouldn’t kill you to be around it, only if you touched it.”
“Powerlines?” I was only naming things I saw. He was creating an elaborate scavenger hunt and I was playing I Spy.
“Lol yup! What road?!”
“I don’t know.”
“Find it.” He demanded.
I just kept naming roads I was on and then he resorted to telling me hot or cold.
I got to a road named “Pole Line Road”. I drove past him. Twice. Because this boy, this boy that is so much better than I could ever hope to be rendered me dumbstruck. I began to see a contraption flashing all its lights and I drove towards it when I received “I see you” and directed me to him because I would not admit I did not know what a sprayer looked like.
I parked at the field entrance and jumped out of my car. I left it running and was so impressed with how I ducked under the electric fence without tripping and ran to the man of my dreams who was there to meet me already standing in front of the sprayer. As we stood in front of each other something equally terrifying and thrilling occurred to me My God, I do love you, you’ve got a smile that takes me to another planet, nothin’ made sense ‘til the time I saw Your Face. Fell in love when I saw you standing there...
“I found you!” I squealed with hands in the air, as if I had really cracked that code.
“You did! You can come up and ride with me if you want.”
I looked back at my still running car and at that fence I had so gracefully climbed through. There was no way I had enough luck to be that dignified again.
“Okay!” I agreed.
“Aren’t you gonna turn off your car?” He asked a little worried.
“Nah, it’s fine. It’ll still be there when I get back.”
I did know in the moment how odd this sounded. But this was Joe. Joe who made me trip over vacuum cords and knock over belt racks and drop keys. Joe who made my nervous system shake. I was not about to risk tripping over a charged electrical fence while he watched.
We drove around for a bit talking. I was surprised at how easily the conversation flowed between us. We talked about movies and music we liked. He asked if I wanted to drive. Of course!!! We switched seats and I grinned like an idiot but I didn’t care. He was helping me push buttons and helping me turn on GPS with his arms around me.
My favorite part though. My favorite part was when I saw I wasn’t the only awkward nervous one. He talked through his radio, grabbing it over my head fumbling with it and dropping it over my head while I giggled as he flushed red and apologized. Three times. Apparently I wasn’t the only one coming undone.
“You sure you don’t wanna turn off your car?” He asked me.
“No, it’s fine. Nobody is gonna take it silly.”
“I was more worried about it running out of gas.”
“Oh it’s REAL good on gas, no need to worry.” I too was quite concerned about the gas level.
“Ok.” This wonderful boy let it go.
As we neared the end of the field he took back over. We were trying to switch seats and I tried to stand as he slid under me hands on grazing my hips. My breath came quicker and heavier as it had been last night. Once we were both settled we stared at each other for a little while, we were close. Close enough to kiss. That’s when his boss came across the radio, he needed to take the tractor back. As he returned me to my car his thumb softly stroked the back of my hand.
The air had become thick with fog and dampness. Condensation coated the tractor and as I went down the stairs I grabbed the handrails. I slipped with all my extremeties sliding and descending at a much faster rate than the rest of me. Through the grace of some entity greater than any I had ever known, I didn’t fall. I delicately glided down the ladder. I skipped the last step and jumped down with confident skill I didn’t know I posessed. I turned back to look at him, smiled and waved. I scampered under the electric fence as I smoothly as I had crossed it to begin with. As I slipped into my car I still had a quarter of a tank. Joe honked from the cab and flashed all the lights. Today was a fairytale, can you feel this magic in the air? Must have been the way you kissed me. I can’t put this down.
